BNA!@Posted: Thu Oct 20, 2005 6:23 pm : I want to remind everybody that D3W has a zero tolerance policy regarding warez - this includes private messages.

Hmmm. So they are not really private then ? ;
Brain Trepaning@Posted: Thu Oct 20, 2005 7:12 pm : So, um, how can I delete a private message? You know, just out of curiousity...?

You have used PM's before, right?
Brain Trepaning@Posted: Thu Oct 20, 2005 7:52 pm : I meant any PM's I "may" have sent asking for WAREZ!! Not that I would do that or anything...

They are, but some people tend to send pm's to the wrong guys and wonder why they get banned.
I don't check pm's although I could, but I do think everything "private" is none of my business.

If you don't do that, you have nothing to worry about.

Just pulling your leg

Anyway, got my copy today from HMV, £3 off due to my sneaky method of buying a £2 map from the tube which I knew had a £5 of voucher for goods £35 and over - must get back to my B&B and load it up, hopefully my laptop will be able to run it !

No, they're not. Somewhat along the lines of email, they're stored in plaintext for their entire life. In terms of PMs on phpbb, they're stored in plaintext in the database. This means that for the most part, they're private between you and the recipient, since those are the only two people that the php serves the text up to. However, anyone with full database access rights (like BNA) can use a more raw method of database viewing to see all private messages that are still stored in the DB (anything that's not been deleted by both parties).

Privacy is ensured by my obligatory decision to fully respect it, not by technology. Listing all the text messages is always only one click away from me and for legal entities suing their way into D3W by claiming it's a functioning infrastructure to trade warez.
I'm picky, but you have to be nowadays.

warez is warez is warez - no matter how you look at it.

Yes, we'll be the only forum where people have to mail me the retina of their right eye to get access.
Seriously, no need to take it further - it is a reminder of our stance on this topic.
Foebane@Posted: Mon Nov 07, 2005 8:14 pm : What if I want to promote a program I wrote myself and am selling it as shareware? Like the signature below? Is that allowed? Or is it spamming? I don't see how it could be spamming.
BloodRayne@Posted: Mon Nov 07, 2005 8:16 pm : See: The Pimping forum.

Foebane@Posted: Mon Nov 07, 2005 8:19 pm : So I can promote (or pimp) my wares there without repercussions?
BTW, I don't like that word - gives a negative connotation.

EDIT: What about pimping sigs, like the one I mentioned - should I remove it or what?

You can promote your work - I guess it's not hard to understand the difference between stolen software and your work.
