edit: oops, I had typed the wrong blender version I was using, have now edited my post with correct version number

I'm using 2.42a and not sure if its me doing something wrong or if the following is a bug.

while in pose mode, if I try to move a bone to a new layer, it disappears, even when all layers are visible. but my mesh carrys on deforming indicating the bone is still part of the armature, just not visible or selectable. can anyone help?

I played around some more in blender including trying out 2.43 and realized armature bones seem to have their own layer system for hiding or showing bones, independent from the normal blender layers, which is why some of my bones were previously remaining hidden.

this is a cool feature, I just wish the screen shots I found had at least shown them, but it seems the various wiki sites I looked at hadn't updated those pages since before 2.42a

ot: kit89, I've just posted a rather long update (no screen shots yet) in my original hell map thread but the short answer is I'm finally working on that project again :)
