Blender 2.44 was intended to be an upgrade release, mainly for plenty of bug fixes, but the developers took the effort of adding at least a few interesting new features.

I'm a bit disappointed that the high to lowpoly normalmap baker haven't made it into 2.44.

ratty redemption@Posted: Tue May 15, 2007 10:29 pm :
is it a feature their planning on implementing? if so blender could really benefit from it :)

Goofos@Posted: Wed May 16, 2007 12:55 am :
I read something about it in the roadmap here:
http://www.blender.org/development/curr ... since-243/

thanks and interesting, especially what they have planned for 2.50 which apparently is an overhaul of the gui.

hopefully it will still look and feel like blender after that and not some 3ds max clone ;)

That was a quick release..

I hope they don't do a complete overhaul I like the Blender Interface. I hope it's more of a facial improvement & better button layout.
I also heard that you should be able to modify the short cut keys. :D

kit89, agreed as I really like blenders gui most of the time :)

one other feature I wish they would code asap is adding creasing or some other form of sharp edges to sculpt mode.

That's the funny thing about Blender... I've had a look at a few other apps, Max mainly, and I have to say that Blender is so fast to use once you figure it out. And to be honest, all those people that have said it's crap interface in the past are only really saying that because they want Max; Blender isn't Max and I hope it never becomes that either. Yay open source and double yay for non-axial interfaces!

I agree. When you learn the interface a bit (it's not even THAT much), it is much faster then most other apps. At least in terms of accessibillity, not neccessarily rendering speed. :P

And concerning the interface - you have to learn any app. All bigger 3D apps are geared to improve the modelling speed. The more user friendly it gets (for new users), the slower it will be, because it needs menus and such stuff, where you constantly have the mouse to shift around. In Blender you can really focus on the modelling act, and I must say - even though it looks daunting at first, there are not THAT many keys to memorize.

agreed, I much rather use blenders ui including the shortcut keys then any other app I can think of.

I can't wait to try it! Thanks for the news man!

The Sub-Surface-Scattering is very impressive. I rendered the standard cube with & without SSS, the SSS looked more natural but it added ages to the render time.

I think when people first use/see Blender its so different from anything else its scary.

To me its the unique interface that makes Blender, Blender. And if they did remove it, it wouldn't be Blender.
