Some people on MapCore.net and this board asked me to make a tutorial, going over how I created textures for this map:

You can find the tutorial here:

Feedback is welcome.

Thanks guys.

The Happy Friar: I remember when we met at QuakeCon you asked if I could share my DeltaCTF textures for PlanetQuake and I forgot to pack them up. Tell ya what, I'll share the ones I used in this level once they're done:

Might be worth mentioning that you're talking about the creation of *just* the *diffuse* layer atm; it'll save confusion with people thinking that you're discussing the creation of the whole set (unless this is to come?)

I added the tutorial to the tutorial list under Texture creation. I named it "Diffuse texture creation from reference" for now, as kat's comment is valid.

Just a general comment. If you did all your specular maps like that then that's why the textures appeared shiney in game (mentioned by myself and obsidian over in LEM); you've got to have them pretty much near full black for matt surfaces so depending on the look you're after you want to go the other way and have black as your background and then blend the greyed diffuse over the top.

Nice clear tute.
