Is there any documentation on exporting weapon models from blender?
I've made a machine gun replacement and it imports fine, animations are working and all, but the weapon appears in the center of the screen and without a texture.
Hope its not too much to ask for but I was wondering how you...

- Change the weapon offset
- Attach a working skin to the model

Thanks
- Nenon

Put this in it's own topic.

That's where the weapon should appear so that's ok. Unless the model is fundamentally different to the default you're editing you'll want to 'offset' using the [weapon].def file.

Do a search of the forums for 'skins' as this one is covered in extensive details, make sure you are talking about 'skinning' though and not rebuilding the UVWmap, the latter you need Blender, the former, you don't.

Cheers man I'll look into it.
The weapons a Machine Gun replacement and it uses the same skin just a different UV map.

I've got the texture ready, I've got the UV map made I just can't find out how to attach the skin to the model when exporting it. I know I've got to use the material settings in Blender but I can't figure it out. :'(

Open up de exported md5 file with textpad, notepad or something like that...
The md5 file has a 'shader' line. In that 'shader' line you put the material name of your texture. Place your material (via a material declaration) in some .mtr file (a material file) and it should work. I'm not going into details, because there are many tutorials about this here on d3world, so be sure to check the stickies!

Awesome, thanks for all ya help guys. The weapons working well now except for one thing that I can't find a solution to (after searching for hours on end).
Probably not the right place to post it but the weapon seems to disappear when it reaches the edge of the screen when I move the view (causing the weapon to sway). When I stop moving the view however it reappears. This is really odd I can't get my head around it

EDIT:
No need to worry, I've fixed it :D

ok i posted this on like 3 threads but still my gun is being an ass.
ok i've
-textured gun (no UVW map cuz the texture looks like it was sent through a mulcher)
-attached it to the doom 3 viewpistol mesh and did some adjustments to the weights.
-exported it and replaced it with the viewpistol.md5mesh in pak002\models\md5\weapons\pistol_view\viewpistol.md5mesh (my mesh is named viewpistol.md5mesh)
-then i replaced the pistol.tga with my .tga that i used as a texture, i replaced it in pak002\models\weapons\pistol\pistol.tga

-all the paths for the pistol in the weapons .mtr pointed there, as well as the shaders from when i exported the md5mesh(as in i did not need to change the mtr paths. by default they were models\weapons\pistol\pistol)

so with everything is place i figured it would work but nope, i had to fuck up somewhere.

case in point. i need to know wat i did wrong. im sorry but thought i've been trying while waiting for help, i just dont know wat i did, the gun is still black and transparent.
sorry as well for being so specific but i must isolate the cause of my problem.

anyone, please help me, this is pissing me off....thank you

i think may have figured out the problem, i did all thos steps but this time applied UVW Map. it was still black but i looked in the console and it said WARNING: Couldn't load image: c:/users/doomguy87/pictures/pistol but i had a copy of this image still in pak002. in any case i think this may be the problem. and thanks lots rich :D , its been a while since someone bothered to help. i will try putting the image in pak002. also y does the image get so fucked in UVW mapping, i tried to fix it but it wont let me use the Unwrap UVW. :?

EDIT: ....fuck, still trying to load c:/users/doomguy87/pictures/pistol
Could i possibly reference a texture outside the .pk4 and modify the paths in the weapons.mtr?

That's where the weapon should appear so that's ok. Unless the model is fundamentally different to the default you're editing you'll want to 'offset' using the [weapon].def file.

Do a search of the forums for 'skins' as this one is covered in extensive details, make sure you are talking about 'skinning' though and not rebuilding the UVWmap, the latter you need Blender, the former, you don't.

Good point. Well, I had to tweak it a lot. There wasn't really any trick I just did an awful job of positioning the mesh itself. Best to use the root bone as the view :S which I didn't do.

Thanks
