Im trying to change the colour of the hellknight dissolve texture but if I change the dds I get this in the console magic ! = dds ' If I change the tga the hellknight just vanishes a few seconds after being killed. I've changed the colour of other textures before and it's worked fine. Is there somthing different with the dissolve textures?

I suspect when you changed the image file, you stripped it of the alpha channel needed for the burn away effect to work properly.

It may apply to you.

Thanx Rich. When I edited the image, its size went down! So I think you were spot on as usual. I've downloaded gimp because it's free but havn't tried it yet. I hope it can do alpha channels.

Okay, that worked for the dissolve texture :D But I also wanna change the colour of a dds texture. I downloaded a plugin from here http://nifelheim.dyndns.org/~cocidius/dds/ that allows dds compatibility but when I tried it on a texture with an alpha channel it says it appears to be a volume map and no volume map can be written because the image has different layers of different sizes  Could someone either direct me to a plugin that works on alpha channels or maybe there's a way of setting up gimp to do it as is.

I can't help with .DDS files. It's the one aspect of texturing I haven't played with.
