Hi... ok my first question is : when I create a server in Q4 MP , my map is only showing in "Lan" servers. the server doesn't show up in the list of internet servers (I would create it , make myself a spectator, and return to main to check to see if it's actually running in "internet servers" ?? not. - only "Lan"

AND....... why can't I create a dedicated server.... and then start Q4 and see the server running in the list?.... Quake4 flashes up , and then shuts down immediately. WHAT THE !?

in the settings, it says pure whatever that means

why can't I join my own dedicated server?

thank you.

You're browsing the server listing on the same box you're hosting the game. In that context, network traffic aimed at your server doesn't have to travel very far to reach it's destination.

It's quite possible that packets aimed at your server are turned around before they even leave your LAN and honestly, that's probably exactly what is taking place.

As far as trying to join your dedicated server, that's also probably related to trying to run both the client and host on the same machine. If I remember correctly you have to set the CVar win_allowmultipleInstances to 1.

You will likely also need to set fs_savepath to two different directories for the two instances of Q4. See q4max wiki.

As for pure, you'll definately want that on. You'll also want to configure the http downloads if you want anyone else to connect - set net_serverDownload 3 ; set net_serverdltable "*" ; set net_serverdlbaseurl "".

do I paste that into the server window on my desktop?

I've answered in your q4max.com thread - I check there more regularly than here, and hadnt instantly worked out that you were the same person.
