sorry, I did not know where else to put this.. does anyone know a free software to make voices sound cooler ?
something that makes a normal voice into a quake3 arena announcer like voice, or a monster, or whatever.

I was looking for something that is understandable for non-audio-artists too.
something where you have a couple of sliders and other options, but not a million different things where I dont know which does the right thing.
something that was created for this purpose.

evilartist@Posted: Fri Jan 11, 2008 9:13 pm :
How about Goldwave? I haven't learned much about it, but the interface is pretty decent.

TTK-Bandit@Posted: Fri Jan 11, 2008 11:44 pm :
I have goldwave here, but the only thing I get working pretty good is a robot voice, but no announcer voice or monster voice.

oh and by the way, like all aspects of modding, in sound design vocal editing and mastering takes years to perfect

BloodRayne@Posted: Sat Jan 12, 2008 11:24 am :
'Years' is a bit of an overstatement. Sound design can be learned, because it's all a matter of how much you want to learn and it's a basic skillset based on soundtheory. It's pretty easy to learn what these things do and how. There are no 'announcer' effects, it doesn't exist. If the topicstarter wants to create these effects himself, he'll have to learn how to use the tools. There is no 'easy way' out with a couple of levels/sliders, it just doesn't work like that I'm afraid, this is the reason why there are dedicated sounds artists that do these kinds of things.

An 'announcer' sound is usualy a combination of several effects: compression, reverb, pitch, delay and perhaps some modulation effect like a chorus.

Douglas Quaid@Posted: Sat Jan 12, 2008 12:08 pm :
please don't offend sound designers by calling it a basic skillset  hardcore sound designers spend hours of mastering a single vocal phrase before they are happy with the quality, hey, why you think they have fans and air conditioners in studios :D and the easy way out is in the link above

Don't get me wrong.

The basics of music and sounddesign is just a skillset: Know how sound works, know the basic filters and what they do, know about frequencies etc.. Much like a painter needs to know what paints to use on which canvas. That doesn't say anything about the quality of work and the special knowledge that sounddesigners can use to create unique sounds for their needs. If anything, my post only underlines that fact that it's something a person needs to learn and hone his/her skills.

But an announcer voice isn't rocket science, it's just that what I said: pitch, reverb, some delay and perhaps a chorus for extra effect. We shouldn't make sounddesign look harder than it is.

I know its better to have an audio artist for this stuff, but I don't have one, so I gotta improvise something.

edit:
ok, kind of a short trial period, it stopped playing back my sample after 2-3 minutes, now all I can do is check out the interface without hearing anything.
