ive made a material editor for doom 3 (with my limited programming skills)

download version 2:
http://www.moddb.com/members/220468/jul ... ial-editor
source code is included so if you can program in visual basic please add to it

post and tell me how much you hate it!

thanks in advance

That's a good start, I think. Great for beginners who just want to get their stuff in-game ASAP.
For more advanced material creators, it would be great to have some portable stand-alone application with visual references, perhaps not needing to render normalmaps and real-time lighting, but stuff like tables and scrolling/rotations/deforms, to be able to actually see these things as they are edited. Something like good old Q3ASE would be excellent, something we can work on materials with, without needing to install the whole fat engine. 8)

I was hoping someone would do something like this. I would have loved to see it incorporated into our customized version of Dark Radiant as a plugin of sorts, but it refuses to run without .NET...grrr...and Dark Radiant is cross platform.

Thanks for the work, but if it's limited to windows only I won't be using it.

oh dear ive just realised doom 3 has its own material editor.... :(

type materialeditor at console

LDAsh@Posted: Mon Jan 21, 2008 4:51 am :
Yeah, the editor itself is like one big material viewer, but it's still a great project as a small standalone application that can be used, without having to install 3GB worth of game, just to fiddle with materials. I hope you won't give up on it. :)

julz127@Posted: Wed Jan 23, 2008 4:49 am :
well id like to continue on it but i think id need some more interest from the community

with the 14 downloads its had so far i dont think im getting much! :( .... but if more people post saying their interested...
well ill keep working on it

New Horizon@Posted: Wed Jan 23, 2008 4:59 am :
Well, the better the progress...the more people that will use it. Are you pimping it on Quake 4 and Prey sites too? It should be usable for those titles as well. You'll only generate as much interest as the effort you put into it. If doom 3 already has a material editor, then make yours better. :)

Dinky@Posted: Wed Jan 23, 2008 5:48 am :
I'm interested. Put it on Moddb as well! Awesome site that Moddb :D.

I support any tool for Doom 3 that makes it so I can spend less time writing ridiculous text files.
