"Flying people on our rockets has been our goal from day one, and we are excited to work with the Rocket Racing League® to provide a system that will be safe for the pilots, cost effective and robust for the teams, and spectacular for the crowds," said John Carmack, President of Armadillo Aerospace."

This is very cool. The EAA air show in Oshkosh, WI is the largest air show in the world and its just 45 miles away from me. If Carmack is going to be there for RRL's first race, then I'm going for sure!

its actually a very cool concept. it reminds me of Star Wars pod racing. i'm not so sure it will be spectator friendly though if most of the action is 10 miles away...

here's a video with carmack in it:

Rocket Racing League had its first successful public showing at EAA. RRL's rocket planes are powered by Armadillo Aerospace engines.

I can see it now, Carmack sitting in a tent with a whole bunch of middle-aged guys on one side and a bunch of teens on the other.

Teens: "What's Doom 4 look like?!"
Middle-Aged Men: "WTF is Doom 4? What about the engine of a AE-141?"*
Teens: "WTF is an AE-141?"

Definitely some cool looking stuff though. I live in WI as well and they're constantly talking about the Fly-In on the radio.

*For the record, I have zero clue about planes and Armadillo Aerospace other than that they make rockets. As far as I know I just made up the AE-141.
