mavrik65@Posted: Fri Jun 06, 2008 5:36 pm : I have decided to create a web page for my up coming mod (doom vs quake vs prey), but how do I go about it? I can go to file front and ask to be hosted but do I download/buy a web page maker? or do they give you one that you edit online like freewebs.com? or do I need to learn java script?
The Happy Friar@Posted: Fri Jun 06, 2008 5:40 pm : I use Nvu.
Kristus@Posted: Fri Jun 06, 2008 5:46 pm : I use Scite
Douglas Quaid@Posted: Fri Jun 06, 2008 5:50 pm : Thats a good question actually as I'm in the same boat as you. I want to make a website for Total Recall but I'm not sure that sites like filefront would allow a site that promotes mods containing ripped arnie sounds. As for filefront, I think they just let you edit domains on a page and you can do all your own design so long as you include a small D3files banner. Well worth it in my opinion.
mavrik65@Posted: Fri Jun 06, 2008 6:04 pm : downloading nvu now! "easy it is for anyone to create web pages in minutes, without any HTML experience or a technical background." that's me

The Happy Friar@Posted: Fri Jun 06, 2008 11:53 pm : don't know about filefront, but gamespy requires you already have a site in existence before they'll host ya.
Pappy-R@Posted: Sat Jun 07, 2008 1:37 pm : Or you can avoid what Friar says and come talk to me about hosting on Planet DOOM.

If you can show progress (work done), it's possible to get hosted, and we will help you make your site if required. Some of the programs used for making sites actually make ugly code that screws up. I use Notepad to this day.

TTK-Bandit@Posted: Sat Jun 07, 2008 3:37 pm : Using Notepad & SciTE, depending on the size.. if it is a bigger project, then SciTE is more handy, but small stuff is usually faster with Notepad.
LDAsh@Posted: Sat Jun 07, 2008 3:46 pm : And some people who use Notepad can screw some ugly code worse than those who use "makers". (=I never figured out how to tile graphics in HTML in 1 command, so my pages are on average +30KB instead of say -10KB)
But yeah, PQ is an awesome place to be and the folks there are great. The single only thing I couldn't stand were some of the advertisments GameSpy were sending down the pipe at one time, some of it wasn't even game-related. I don't know what things are like these days, but I hope they've quit advertising trashy romantic comedy films or whatever and gained back some context.

ok, *I* had to apply. I know someone I recomended to PD was turned down because they didn't have a good enough looking page to be accepted. But if Pappy says he'll work with ya, go for it! It's pretty liberal with the space, bandwidth, etc.

Wow really that'll be awesome (not avoiding what friar says but being hosted) , I can show work done my mod is almost done its just those pesky maps that take for ever to do. I've already got my site planned out, I'm just making the hundreds of images that make up the pages then i'll get to grips with the website maker. Can I be hosted by Planet Quake (it's a quake 4 mod), game spy and file planet?
The Happy Friar@Posted: Sat Jun 07, 2008 7:13 pm : it would be yousitename.planetquake.gamespy.com
you'd have control over e-mail, FTP access & lots of other fun things.
They pretty much give you total control over everything.

Pappy-R@Posted: Sat Jun 07, 2008 8:35 pm : PQ hosting is no problemo, I know a guy there.

I've answered your PM as well mav.
