I know it's kind of a selfish topic because some of us here are'nt in America, but for those that are I had a really good time and wanted to share. Nothing out of the ordinary, I went to the carnival, All three of the children rode some of the big kid rides and they all had fun, I rode on the big wheel that spins around and makes you stick to the wall for the first time in my life, it was actually pretty fun except it felt like my face was melting. My oldest son had the magic touch, he won every carnival game he played, he looked like a pirate with all the stuffed animals and hats he won, he was the only one to win the "break the beer bottle with the baseball" game all weekend they told us. Afterwards we had a cookout, ate some BBQ pork steak and burgers, potato salad and beans.

Then we watched the fireworks, this was the second time I went to Henry Illinois to watch them, they shoot them right over the Illinois river which is a tributary of the Mississippi, They shoot the rockets off on one side of the river and the spectators sit on the other, the reflections on the water are very pretty, you can feel the blast and heat, and they are so close it looks like they cover the whole sky. I was thinking about what it would have been like back in 1776 or later on the day the revolution was won, and remembering all the past great accomplishments of our country, I still believe in America, even though America right now is'nt my kind of America I believe in change.

After that we went to my sisters house everyone got drunk except me I don't drink, I just played my guitar and watched everyone, it was very entertaining and fun. It was a good time, one of my favorite holidays of the year besides Halloween. Anyone else have a good time yesterday? What did you do?

How is it selfish? Sounds like a great day. I wish we had something like that in the summer. We can't really celebrate the July 4th because that's when you overthrew us

strange, my English aunt (jokingly) says "we didn't want you anyway." :D

we had a good time. my wife had to work in the late morning/afternoon so me & the kids went to the parade. My oldest was marching in it (cubscouts). Anyway... parade was "different". The highschool band started @ the wrong spot (~1/4 mile wrong!) & the military guys started with them. The scouts, fireengines, etc. all started in the correcct area, so we saw them. Got a crapload of candy. :D Then we went downtown & looked around. The kids went in the bouncehouse, then we watch some soap box car races, then we went to the farm (that burned down) & worked for a few hours. Came home, had dinner, then we all went to the fireworks. Don't know what happened but they had some blow up w/o shooting up, some go ~20 feet then fall to the earth & some explode pretty close (~50-75 feet) to the ground. But it's the first time in ~8 years there's been fireworks in town so it's all good. :D

maybe I'm just all fk'ed up. We're quite happy where we are (family). We're doing everything everybody else claims they can't & don't complain when things go south. Maybe it's because, according to most, we're poor small town redneck hicks who don't have a clue. If so, it's the best damn thing in the world! :D

Sounds like you're living for the moment Happy, here's my philosophy: "If you have one foot in the past, and one foot in the future, you are pissing all over today".

I'm sick of hearing about all the doom(no pun intended), if everyone in America believes "the end is near" then they will act like the end is near, what will happen is that we are going to manifest the end.

This is'nt the first time on American history our leaders have waged an agressive war of expansion and acquisition under false pretenses, this is'nt the first time our country fell into economic depression. America made it through the Great Depression and lived to tell about it, I have'nt seen any breadlines yet.

Granted there's a lot of fixing to be done right now but I really never hear anyone saying anything really constructive except finger pointing and a bunch of self-pity. If you fall down you have to get up, you can't just lay there and wallow in your own piss, and shit, and self-pity, waiting for someone to come pick you up who most likely never will.
