Hey guys!
Yeah, I haven't been posting here for a while but now I'm back with a request for some (decent) Tutorials about 3D modeling.

Today I've got my hands on the one of the best 3D modeling programs around - The Notorious 3DS Max 9.
What tutorials would you recommend to a beginner like me?

Gunman

BloodRayne@Posted: Thu Aug 07, 2008 3:51 pm :
3dsMax 9 is shipped with lots of tutorials and help items. Just browse the CD's and you'll find a wealth of information. :)

mavrik65@Posted: Thu Aug 07, 2008 4:58 pm :

thanks for the offer, but I can't be bothered going through the whole illegal downloading thing again, I've tried it on two separate occasions and it hasn't worked out.

Gunman@Posted: Thu Aug 07, 2008 5:54 pm :
I understand ^^

better edit your posts. Last week someone had their thread locked because they mentioned warez. You should edit yours ASAP.

not about helping him, about the board not supporting piracy.

BNA!@Posted: Thu Aug 07, 2008 7:10 pm :
Warez is usually an instaban - this is not a piracy support board.
Please understand and act accordingly.

You can download a fully-operational version of the most recent 3ds Max from the official website, and there are links to all the tutorials there as well.

I hope people will relax a little bit about the topic of wares here. It seems the moment someone mentions "torrent" (or even just "download") eyebrows shoot to the roof. Get with the times please, torrents are used for all manner of perfecty legal and legitimate things these days, and with good reason.
"I downloaded a game using bittorrent" does not imply any piracy laws broken on its own. After all, isn't Steam pretty much the same thing, and you can download Doom3 via Steam? It would suck if an innocent member gets banned and topics locked just because some moderator is over-sensitive to some outdated buzzwords.

We get with the times and unlike you I am the one who's going to be held responsible for the promotion of software piracy.

And yes, you can download Doom3 via Steam, just like you can buy other games on Steam. And just for the record - you can also buy and download movies and music from iTunes.

Usually when someone buys something they don't feel inclined to disclose how they obtained it because more often than not it's irrelevant.

Case in point, if I buy software from an online vendor I'll say "I bought X" or "I downloaded X off Steam". The distinction is that when I use the word download I distance myself from illegal activity by ensuring you know who I downloaded from.

That said, leaving your statements open to misinterpretation is your fault, not ours. You might as well say "I downloaded X from a warez site" because that's how I'm going to interpret it. In my experience when someone doesn't put forward that little bit of extra effort to make themselves clear it's because they'd rather tell a half-truth than blatantly lie.

Now I'm not going to pretend that we're above making mistakes. But this issue must be strictly moderated, because it's not practical to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that someone is guilty of piracy before we correct a potential problem.

We don't have the time to waste on petty nonsense when the fact of the matter is this whole problem could be easily avoided just by tailoring your language. And since I'd much rather do something productive, erring on the side of caution is good enough in my eyes.

You come off like we just shot someone in the head and kicked their body into a ditch.

"LET THIS BE AN EXAMPLE TO THE REST OF YOU!!!"

It's not like anyone's been banned for piracy. We edit a couple posts and that's it. It's okay buddy. We're all friends here. :)
