Highly speculative to be sure http://kotaku.com/5043287/microsoft-con ... -expansion

atleast looking at the next halo project as a probable idtech5 licensee :)

A id member working on microsoft doesn't mean microsoft will use idtech5.

But it is sad that a long time member of id is leaving.I liked kenneth's art.

pbmax@Posted: Fri Aug 29, 2008 3:07 pm :
he's gone for sure. he's not listed on id's web site anymore.

rebb@Posted: Tue Sep 09, 2008 2:21 pm :
A real shame. I really liked his whole Art-Style contributing to id's Games.

Pappy-R@Posted: Tue Sep 09, 2008 3:04 pm :
Yup, sadly he's gone. I talked to him about it last week.

I'll miss his style, and I'll miss my pal.

He did say he'd be around QuakeCon next year so I'll see how he's liking it at Microsoft.

There is no connection between his going and Microsoft using id tech in any way. This was a personal move for Kenneth and his lovely and talented wife Corrinne. They will now be working together at Microsoft Games Division.

"No, Doom 3 is better!"
"No, Halo 2!"
"DOOOM THREEEEEEE!"
"H.A.L.O. T.W.O!"
"Dev a REAL game, a Doom game!"
"That's it's, you're sleeping on the couch: ALONE!!"
"At least I'll have a good time playing a REAL FPS!"

Well she just joined Microsoft. She used to work at Gearbox on Aliens: Colonial Marines, Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway, Borderlands and a 4th game. She worked on platform technology, optimizing for the Xbox 360 and PS3, implementing various changes to UE3 stuff like that.

Pappy-R@Posted: Wed Sep 10, 2008 1:56 pm :
Yes, they're going together. She also did Prey for HumanHead and is very highly respected code monster. She's been called "the female John Carmack" in a few pieces I've seen out there.

Kristian Joensen@Posted: Wed Sep 10, 2008 6:48 pm :
She never worked at Human Head. She did some technology experiments for what was to be a new engine for Prey at 3D Realms back in 1999. Her tech was never used and there was no other work done on the game back then other then her experiments. No game design, level design, art or sound/music work.

Anyways they already found a replacement for Kenneth, Stephan Martiniere.

pbmax@Posted: Thu Sep 11, 2008 3:10 pm :
question!

it appears that id is hiring quite a few concept artists. are they strickly doing concept work or are they also "hand painting" the world that is Rage (since idtech5 allows artists to go directly into the levels and uniquely hand paint/stamp every thing)?

artist driven content is something carmack always wants to improve on, so i'm womdering if these super talented artists are using thier skills to directly bring Rage to life.
