I'm in the farm level now and so far I haven't seen any scary (or chilling) part at all.
RtCW had plenty of 'em.
Plus, Wolf 2k9 doesn't sound as atmospheric as it's predecessor was (yet, I still haven't completed the game).

The Happy Friar@Posted: Wed Sep 02, 2009 1:29 pm :
I liked it better then RTCW myself. The game, there's technical & picky things that drive me nuts. But no uber-gory/doom3-esque bits. There's some creepy things but nothing super-bad. My kids (4/9) jumped in a few parts. 8)

rich_is_bored@Posted: Wed Sep 02, 2009 1:33 pm :
There are no scary bits. It's all run and gun just like the original Wolf.

evilartist@Posted: Wed Sep 02, 2009 4:06 pm :
Is there a law that Wolf has to be scary? Frankly, I didn't find RtCW scary/chilling, either. I will agree it had the best atmosphere, though.

=FF=Sturm@Posted: Wed Sep 02, 2009 6:26 pm :
Well, Rtcw had good undergrounds like the crypts and the castle (and undead monsters...). Then Xlabs, hehe the loopers.
But wolfenstein DOES not scare... it is only funny

The Happy Friar@Posted: Wed Sep 02, 2009 6:37 pm :
i thought the game had great action-movie-esque bits though. :)

I'm playing through RTCW again to refresh my memory on gameplay (and to have fun :p ), I've only just hit the catacombs a few levels in, but I have to agree RTCW has tones more atmosphere.
It's the reactions of the german soldiers to being trapped there with them that really sets it off. Nothing says messing with powers beyond their reckoning like the aforementioned powers turning against them.
The most new wolf does is having the occult dude say as much directly, and as they say in movies, don't tell show, and in the case of games - the enemy of my enemy is ohmygodgoingtokillusall. Fear is a communicable disease :p
Ok, so there is the hulk type enemy in new wolf that only shows up twice.

I'm also seeing from playing through where new Wolf really tried to pull situations and gameplay elements from rtcw, also poking the new wolfs various files you can see at one point it was a lot closer.
I'll post more thoughts once I'm further through RTCW.

One of the things i liked most of the great RTCW IdTech3 based game was and still is, the scarier Catacombs levels with hundreds of zombies and the like appearing from many different places, even in most parts it was more scary to me than Doom 3 is !

its sad that the NEW 2k9 Wolfenstein IdTech4 based game didn't redo this again, oh, why Raven, why ??? :(

Hostyle@Posted: Thu Sep 03, 2009 4:47 pm :
Yeah, RTCW is scary sometimes, esp if you forget scare placement. It was a good game. Now installing "platinum edition". I hope I'll find good texture mods.

there should be a rule that all ID games are required to be more violent and gory than the last.

@chuckdood - Yeah, a rule and a law, that every next games from Id Software should be more violent, more scary and more spectacular awesome graphics and sound than any previous one, of course, because is Id, because is or it was the LEADER of this kind of games FPS violent and action, but in the style of Id, that its unique and well, for me, i just want more of the same but always multiplied by 10000 in all the features ! :D
