hey mans i have a huge problem with my Quake Editor it's lagging many i can't fix that problem please if anyone can help me :(

LDAsh@Posted: Mon Jan 25, 2010 5:00 pm :
Disable v-sync and anti-aliasing, mainly in your video card settings, but can also try via command line when launching the editor:-
Code:
Quake4.exe +set r_fullscreen 0 +set r_multiSamples 0 +set r_swapinterval 0 +vid_restart +editor

artic2@Posted: Mon Jan 25, 2010 5:14 pm :
again it's like that is huge lag and i can't do anything :?

gavavva@Posted: Mon Jan 25, 2010 5:23 pm :
Define "lag"...? Do you mean laggy controls that have a delay, or do you mean your frame rate is too low?

artic2@Posted: Mon Jan 25, 2010 5:31 pm :
i mean frame by frame very slow

gavavva@Posted: Mon Jan 25, 2010 6:47 pm :
The if you have AA disabled its either your system being out of date in some regard (Be it hardware or software) or maybe some random bug... But with the limited info you have given us its hard to say.

So post your system specs including driver versions and windows version first :p

artic2@Posted: Mon Jan 25, 2010 7:37 pm :
AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+,768MB RAM,128MB Video, the drivers its ok because other games runs fast

gavavva@Posted: Mon Jan 25, 2010 8:23 pm :
Thats not enough information.

Its a slow CPU, Plus you only have 768 system memory, and even worse you only have a 128meg graphics card...? You shouldn't be expecting any decent performance with that. Granted other games may run ok but you have to remember that the Doom 3 engine (What Quake 4 uses) is MUCH more demanding than other games out at the time.

With the info given it just looks like your system is too old and cant cope, so I imgine it would struggle. If you go ingame and drop the details down in the menu then go to the editor you will find the same detail applies there now too, so try that. But with that rig I wouldn't try running it on anything higher than 800x600 Medium quality with no AA at all.

artic2@Posted: Mon Jan 25, 2010 10:01 pm :
but when first time i run q4editor everything was ok,and the second starting lag and in the game i make the options on 800X600 Medium Quality, and Doom3Editor is ok and the Doom 3 runs fine i don't know why q4edit is bugging ;( thanks anyway

AnthonyJa@Posted: Mon Jan 25, 2010 10:56 pm :
So, maybe start off with answering our questions then....

what is your graphics card? manufacturer + model. What driver version? What OS?

What is your config like? Maybe post it somewhere that we can dl it.

What resolution are you trying to run it at? What res do you play the game at, and what framerate do you get?

artic2@Posted: Tue Jan 26, 2010 2:48 pm :
NVIDIA GeForce 3 Ti 200,the driver version is 4.5.2.3. Windows SE

artic2@Posted: Tue Jan 26, 2010 2:56 pm :
but lag only in the field in what you do when the tick level of textures and other folders or fail everything is okay but when I do field level begins inhumane lag

gavavva@Posted: Tue Jan 26, 2010 3:00 pm :
"NVIDIA GeForce 3 Ti 200,the driver version is 4.5.2.3. Windows SE"

And theres your issue... A GeForce THREE? Come on man, you can pick up a GeForce 8 for £20 these days... But thats the problem. Editing uses more resources as you don't get hinting until you compile and run ingame. So the editor will run a LOT slower anyway, but on a GF3...? I wouldn't even try running the game myself.

Time to upgrade!

artic2@Posted: Tue Jan 26, 2010 3:04 pm :
man i can play the game without lag if i make the resolution 800X600 and Medium Quality and before i preinstalling my windows i was can make maps for quake.Well i will make maps with QuArK.

gavavva@Posted: Tue Jan 26, 2010 3:11 pm :
You don't seem to understand what I'm getting at...

First of all, it makes no difference you can make maps for Quake with QuArK, because Quarks an old, old old terrible editor for the old Quake with (last time I checked) VERY limited support for Quake 4... In other words, it will likely map with everything off, that includes shadows, the biggest killer of frame rate in the editor. So, you will be mapping with very old standards and everything disabled.

You can run Quake 4 just about if you drop everything down... But like I said, Q4Rad is different to Q4. Just because you can run one doesnt mean the other will be fine. Q4Rad doesn't display portals/hints etc, which means it renders the whole thing in one go. It will be even worse when you use real time preview.

Its your card man, simple as that. Its far too old to be keeping up to speed these days, and there isn't much to do about it.

Gavavva speaks the truth. If you want to edit maps, upgrade your system.

Of all things this makes sense the least (unless I got lost in translation).

I also have a problem with the Q4 editor - everything works fine in the Doom3 editor, so it should not be a hardware issue on my side.

Problem: the preview 3D cam doesn´t always work right - both in regular view mode and in render mode. Especially in larger spaces (medium size outdoor scenery for example) brushes only become visible when selected, most times there is nothing visible in the cam view. Same with render mode, which almost doesn´t work at all in larger areas, and it doesn´t do anything when I update render view with F4.

gavavva@Posted: Wed Feb 10, 2010 7:12 pm :
Cubic clipping. Click the big button on the toolbar called "cubic clipping" and that should sort it out.

Thanks gavavva! Easy as that.
