I'm curious if there are custom Wolfenstein levels, or at least a Wolfenstein editor available (perhaps I could try GtkRadiant if there's nothing embedded in the Wolf exe)? Sounds interesting modding for it, seeing it's with Nazis and stuff.

PS: I'm talking about the latest Raven Software release.

Editor? New Wolfenstein? Raven's sdk?

printz@Posted: Sun Oct 10, 2010 4:59 pm :
Not even a chance?

Well, since Wolf is still id Tech 4, if I can make Doom 3 maps, I can make Wolfenstein ones too. And engine buyers are usually lazy programmers, so the only new things added are probably a handful. I'll just have to learn how to use the few extra special effects, by looking at the original maps.

Why I want to do this? To show off at the Wolf3d and RtCW communities that I'm making maps for the new Wolfenstein :P

Well, of course, unless this game explicitly prohibits custom map making, but I tend to doubt that...

EDIT: oh now I see the "Wolfenstein SDK" thread. Gonna look through it.

EDIT EDIT: hey do you happen to be that guy working on a Wolfenstein Doom 3 TC?

The Happy Friar@Posted: Sun Oct 10, 2010 11:57 pm :
Wolf maps work differently then D3 maps. I'm not sure you could even hack one together if you wanted.

But I don't think anyone ever tried.

printz: yes, I am making a tc mod about wolf.
All the info at moddb is very old and most of the stuff has been changed to don't use ravensoft models. I've not update anything yet.

The Happy Friar: There is no chance to make maps for WOLFSP since there is no SDK. (u can still make maps for the multiplayer, but who wants?)

ActiBliz is all about dem dollahs. SDKs? Communities? they just slow down the mediocre crap pushing machine that is today's Raven.

Yeah, a massive amount of information was lost on ETQW modding when Activision shut down the ETQW community forums without any warning.

Susefreak@Posted: Mon Jan 10, 2011 2:06 pm :
Altho bit by bit information seems to get back to the splashdamage forums regarding etqw modding.

Weren't you working on a map for ETQW Tron? I vaguely recall something about Stroggos.

rich_is_bored@Posted: Mon Jan 10, 2011 2:15 pm :
Official forums and websites aren't a proper home for documentation when you have better options. That whole situation was avoidable even if people choose to shoulder Activsion with all the blame.

Susefreak@Posted: Mon Jan 10, 2011 2:51 pm :
So a community shouldn't post documentation on the boards where a large part of the community resides. Makes sense....

edit: typo

rich_is_bored@Posted: Mon Jan 10, 2011 4:52 pm :
I'm pretty sure the only reason official forums exist anywhere is because discussion about a game occasionally leads to a sale and it's cheaper to have a community service it's own technical problems than to pay some guy in India for it. But I'm just evaluating the value of discussion forums from a business perspective. It's possible some companies out there are being genuinely altruistic.

That said I didn't say people shouldn't post documentation in discussion forums but it is pretty foolish to keep all your eggs in one basket. Lucky for us we can host our own content and post links so others can find it.

What should have been done is all the information posted on the boards(run by Acti) could have all been saved if the details had also been documented on something not run by a for profit company.......like say modwiki.net whose primary purpose is to document details on id tech games.

Ask to anyone who makes maps for ETQW... like chris, anthony, bigwolf
It's basically on the roots since wolfmp is just an Etqw mod.
