Hello
I have a very annoying problem with Doom 3. The image is kind of shaking quite often. You can see this effect on this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUohifAbPW0 (00:05, 00:19) . I don't touch keyboard and mouse. It happens on default doom and drivers settings as well as on my custom settings. I remember I played Doom 3 before and this problem didn't occur. I recorded this video on freshly installed system. It does not happen in any other game. I tried 1.3 and 1.3.1 patch, the problem occurs on both.

Can you help me?:)

Windows XP SP2 (also happens on SP3)
GeForce 9800GT 1GB (266.58, also happened on older versions)
Core 2 Duo E7400 2.8GHz
4GB Ram
MB: MSI Neo-F
Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer

No hair. It happens even when mouse is unplugged :-(

I also noticed that this problem does not occur at all before first monsters appear (part of the game when you arrive and walk around the base).

Isn't that a natural shake from sound effects? Do you hear faint rumbling and explosions whenever they occur?

Edit: Nevermind. I see the twitching you're really talking about.

No, it's not that type of shake, it has nothing to do with rumbling sounds. The shake I'm talking about is very rapid, you can see it in 5th and 19th second of my video.

I just checked it out and I get the same twitching. A quick test with a build that removed the sound based shake also removed the twitch so that's where it's coming from, most likely a simple bug with the shake calculation math. There's nothing wrong with you're game or system or anything.

I had a same problem. Just try s_useOpenAL 0.

Thanks for your answer, it really is related to sound. Also thanks for suggesting word "twitching", this allowed me to find some more info about this problem.

I disabled it in config file, but it got enabled every time I started Doom. So I disabled EAX in game menu, and this stopped the twitching. Thanks.

I'm downloading older Creative drivers, will update this post if it helps :-)

Update:
I tried two versions of old X-fi drivers but none of them fixed this problem. There must be a solution, I'm sure I played Doom 3 with EAX without problems...

How can I do it?:)

I want to play D3 again, with EAX and without "sound based shake". How do I disable it?

This is one of those things where I thought it was just my system, but I gues I'm not the only one.

At the moment I have found a spot in Mars City Underground where the twitching occurs. In an attempt to fix things, I've been looking into the .sndshd files. Look at this one for example:

Code:
mc_substing_01 {
   minDistance      1
   maxDistance      30
   volume         2
   shakes         0.2
   unclamped

   sound/levels/mc_underground/invasion/bass_sting_01.wav
}

mc_substing_02 {
   minDistance      1
   maxDistance      30
   volume         2
   shakes         0.2
   unclamped

   sound/levels/mc_underground/invasion/bass_sting_02.wav
}

I'm pretty sure these two sounds are causing the twitching in that particular map and I've tried to comment out the "shakes"-line, remove it completely and set the value to 0.0, but all with no success. I'm kind of running out of ideas.
Anyone else who likes to play detective with me? :)

I'd uninstall all my mouse drivers (logitech stuff) and see if the issue still exists.
Looks like a driver issue.

check your frame-rate it seems like jerking is a combination of the normal rumbling of the game with a sudden drop in framerate or dropped frames that gives you the large jerk in the end but it doesn't look like it has anything to do with the mouse purely a rendering issue
